About Mark
Mark Klang served on the Rocklin School Board
from 2000 – 2004. Mark was the only board member
who was known as the true parent advocate. When
parents called him about problems that could not
be solved at their school, he was not afraid to
ask the difficult questions, advocate for
parents, and make sure their
problems were resolved.
During his tenure on the board, Mark led the
effort to get the district to rescind its policy
allowing students to leave school without
parent's permission for medical appointments.
Without Mark’s efforts, the Rocklin School
District would continue to release students
without their parent’s permission.
During the 2000 campaign, Mark also promised
to improve the Rocklin High School grading system
to one that does not promote procrastination.
Prior to Mark’s election, the high school
grading system allowed students to make up
assignments during their senior year, which were
actually due during their freshman year. While
the current system is better, it still has a lot
of room for improvement.
Mark has been involved in Rocklin sports
since 1998. He has coached his older daughter’s
T-ball, fast pitch softball, soccer, and AAU
basketball teams. Mark is a member of the
Rocklin American Legion.
Mark spent 22 years in the United States Air
Force. While on active duty he was assigned to
fly the B-52 Strategic Bomber and sat nuclear
alert during the cold war. He transferred to the
Air National Guard and flew the RF-4 Tactical
Reconnaissance Fighter. His last 6 years were
spent in the Air Force Reserves. During that
time he was assigned to the Pentagon and served
on the Air Staff.
Currently Mark works for a company in the
defense and homeland security area. He also
has his own aerospace consulting company.
Mark has been married for 26 years to Ilene.
Ilene is a National Board Certified Teacher who
teaches 4th grade in the Folsom
Cordova Unified School District. They have 2
daughters - Brittany a freshman at Western Oregon University and Hannah, who is 9.
