Destination Rocklin
It seems that none of the elected officials have a clue about what Rocklin’s proper role in the south Placer County region should be. Rocklin will never be a more desirable zip code than Granite Bay. It will never be a better shopping destination than Roseville. Rocklin will always cost more than Lincoln and have less horse property than Loomis. With build-out of all available, developable land fast approaching, no one has come forward with any vision of Rocklin’s future. The elected “leadership” (it is a real stretch to use that term) has focused only on maintaining the pecking order of the old-boy network and covering up for the ineptitude of themselves and their cronies. I believe that Rocklin's strengths are education and sports. These strengths should be built upon to make Rocklin a destination.
- Education. What the City Council in Rocklin has ignored is the potential for Rocklin to become the region’s educational Mecca. With a foundation of William Jessup University, Sierra College, Rocklin Academy, and therecently opened Western Sierra Collegiate Academy, Rocklin has a rare opportunity to leverage these assets that were basically handed to them on a silver platter, and make a move to a position of strength in the region. Instead, they ignore Sierra College, try to decimate Rocklin Academy, and actually fought to prevent the opening of Western Sierra Collegiate Academy. Why? It is because Rocklin officials cannot see beyond their own noses. Their cronies don’t control any of these entities nor can they take credit for the vision and hard work that led to their creation. They would rather drive past the many vacant strip malls in town that they blindly approved for their developer cronies without any consideration of a strategic plan or vision for our future.
- Sports. Rocklin is a sports crazy town. We love our soccer, baseball, football, and basketball. We can utilize this passion to grow the fortunes of our city. I propose that we attract more world-class sports venues such as the Field of Dreams (www.bigleaguedreams.com) and more fully utilize existing assets such as Hardwood Palace to drive sports tournaments to our region.
