Business Friendly
It is no secret in the region that the Rocklin City Council is business unfriendly. Multiple commercial real estate brokers have stated that they steer clients away from Rocklin because of this. If Rocklin is to thrive in the new economy, it must change. I want to make Rocklin business friendly by doing the following:
- Reduce Excessive Fees. The Rocklin City Council has imposed excessive fees on businesses an impeded their growth and ability to survive. A good example is Wild Danz Pizza. Owner Dan Lebow wanted to develop new revenues by offering live music on Friday nights on the patio adjacent to the restaurant area. The City demanded $1500 per event. Obviously, nobody can make money after having to pay such an excessive fee. I will eliminate these excessive fees.
- Revise Regulations. Businesses in different parts of town have varying geographical and traffic conditions that should dictate their signage restrictions. Downtown businesses should be allowed to have sidewalk signs. Highway businesses should be allowed signs sufficient to attract passersby. Nonsensical, uniform restrictions should be removed. A business commission should exist to tailor regulations to the needs of the business and the standards of the community..
